Communities
Kennecott Eagle Minerals is dedicated to integrating itself into the communities surrounding its operations. Kennecott must manage its impacts professionally and transparently while building positive relationships and creating local benefits. Effective community engagement is central to our success.
Mutual respect requires us to understand issues that are important to our neighbors, and our neighbors to understand what is important to our business. Our community and environmental work is closely coordinated and takes into account peoples’ perceptions of the effects and consequences of our activities.
Kennecott uses expertise to harness resources and create prosperity for our shareholders, employees, communities, governments and business partners through salaries, taxes and contracts.
To develop projects and eventually build and operate a mine, we understand that we need access to land, water, and the geological resource of a place. This access is given to the company in two fundamental ways:
- Governments and regulatory authorities provide official permits and licenses if we meet certain legal and financial criteria.
- People near, or who have interest in the resources permit us to operate and perform our jobs if they are confident and trust that we are managing our work and our impacts in ways that respect the environment and their way of life.
Healthy communities, from a socio-economic, environmental, and sustainable development perspective are both a corporate responsibility and a practice that benefits our business. Our willingness to communicate openly about our successes and challenges in community engagement is fundamental to building enduring relationships and trust.
