About Us
A wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto, Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company is the owner, developer, and future operator of Eagle Mine in western Marquette County of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (U.S).
For nearly 10 years, Kennecott has explored Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for minerals. In 2002 exploration efforts led to the discovery of a valuable nickel and copper deposit (termed “Eagle”) located in Michigamme Township, about 25 miles northwest of the City of Marquette.

The project provides a valuable opportunity for Rio Tinto to enter the Nickel market where demand continues to rise. |
As part of our commitment to the region, Kennecott will continue to explore for additional resources in the Upper Peninsula.
